Curtin Malaysia and MyIPO Establish Strategic Partnership for Enhanced Innovation and Technology Transfer
Curtin University Malaysia has established a strategic partnership with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) to enhance innovation and technology transfer in the country. The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and identifies Curtin Malaysia as the 25th host institution in the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) program, a global initiative supported by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Signing Ceremony and Key Representatives
The signing ceremony was held at Curtin Malaysia’s campus and included representatives from both organizations, such as Professor Simon Leunig, Pro Vice-Chancellor, President, and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia, and Tuan Kamal Kormin, MyIPO’s Director General. The partnership aims to advance intellectual property management and stimulate innovation across Malaysia.
Promoting Economic and Social Growth
Professor Leunig indicated that the partnership could promote economic and social growth by providing students, faculty, and industry partners with the necessary resources to navigate patent databases and assess technology trends. He described the TISC Network as a valuable resource that could enhance the competitiveness of businesses and researchers.
Enhancing Awareness of Intellectual Property
Tuan Kamal emphasized the importance of this collaboration for Malaysia, noting that it would improve the country’s awareness of intellectual property and its position in the Global Innovation Index. The TISC program, in operation since 2016, has played a crucial role in establishing local institutions as vital contributors in the field of intellectual resources.
Building an Innovation Ecosystem
This initiative highlights Malaysia’s dedication to creating an innovation ecosystem that connects academia with industry, supporting the application of intellectual property in fostering entrepreneurship and technological progress. The event also saw the presence of significant figures from both Curtin Malaysia and MyIPO, reflecting robust institutional support for the partnership.
