MFU Expands Access to Preventive Healthcare Through Community Cancer Screening Initiative

Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) has strengthened its commitment to equitable healthcare through the launch of a mobile breast and cervical cancer screening initiative aimed at improving access to preventive services in rural communities.
Conducted on 26 June 2026 at Wat Huay Pla Kang Hospital for the General Public in Mueang Chiang Rai District, the programme was jointly organised by the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, and Mae Fah Luang University Medical Center Hospital. The initiative was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Preecha Soontranan, Dean of the School of Medicine, and Dr. Jullapong Achalapong, Project Chair, together with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and nurses. A total of 100 local residents received breast and cervical cancer screenings during the event.
Kasemrad Sriburin Hospital in Chiang Rai supported the project by deploying a mobile X-ray and health check-up unit, enhancing the efficiency and reach of onsite services.
Beyond providing immediate screenings, the project also focused on strengthening local healthcare capacity by training public health personnel in basic breast cancer screening techniques. The initiative addresses a significant regional health concern, as breast and cervical cancers remain the two most commonly diagnosed cancers among women in Chiang Rai Province.
Through community-based preventive healthcare programmes, MFU continues to advance its role as a regional centre for health science education, research, and healthcare development across the Greater Mekong Subregion.
