Kyoto University Receives Final Approval for Research System Strengthening Plan for International Research Excellence
Kyoto University has reached a significant milestone in its pursuit of global research leadership after receiving final approval for its “Research System Strengthening Plan for Universities for International Research Excellence.” The approval was granted by Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on 7 August 2026, following the University’s accreditation as a University for International Research Excellence on 31 July 2026.
The recognition highlights Kyoto University’s commitment to advancing its research capabilities and strengthening its position among the world’s leading research institutions. The approved plan outlines a series of structural reforms designed to enhance the University’s research environment, governance, international competitiveness, and capacity for innovation.
