Five UCSI Researchers Were Named Among The World’s Top 2% Scientists

Five researchers from UCSI University have been ranked among the top 2% of scientists in the world in 2020 in various disciplines, according to a recent report published by Stanford University.

The researchers named in the “2020 Single Year World’s Top 2% Scientists” include UCSI Graduate Business School Dean, Senior Professor Ts Dr Ooi Keng Boon and Associate Professor Dr Garry Tan Wei Han, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Postgraduate Studies, Senior Professor Dr Phang Siew Moi, Faculty of Applied Science’s Associate Professor Dr Eric Chan Wei Chiang and the University’s Institute of Computer Science and Digital Innovation Visiting Professor Dr Prathap Gangan.

In the exercise that was released on October 20, Professor Dr Ooi was listed under the field of business and management and the subfields of information systems; Associate Professor Dr Garry Tan for his research in information systems and under the subfields of business and management; Professor Dr Phang was named in the category of marine biology and hydrobiology and under the subfield of biotechnology; Associate Professor Dr Eric was listed for his research in the category of pharmacology and pharmacy and under the subfield of food science; and Professor Dr Prathap was ranked for his study in the category of applied mathematics and under the subfields of plant biology and botany.

In addition, Senior Professor Ts Dr Ooi and Professor Dr Prathap Gangan were also listed under the “Career-long World’s Top 2% Scientists” category.

“The significance of this achievement spans many levels. We hope this can be an inspiration for our lecturers and shows that nothing is impossible if we continue to work hard and publish continuously in good journals. The recognition also serves as an opportunity for the University to increase our visibility internationally, and we hope that this will lead to more international collaboration and networking in the near future,” said Professor Ooi.

World’s Top 2% Scientists is a list compiled by Stanford University and published in PLOS Biology Journal. The list includes about 160,000 scientists from all over the world. The Top 2% 2019 is based on the academics’ scientific achievements measured by the bibliometric index. The evaluation criteria include the H-index, the impact factor, total citations (including self-citations), co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, etc.
