Tsinghua University President Li Luming’s Visit to Germany: Advancing International Cooperation

Tsinghua University President Li Luming led a delegation to Germany from January 17 to 18 to explore opportunities for enhancing international cooperation between educational institutions. During the visit, discussions took place with Thomas Hofmann, President of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), focusing on the integration of artificial intelligence in education, advancements in clinical medicine, and innovative methods in higher education.

Enhancing International Collaboration

President Li detailed Tsinghua University’s recent achievements in scientific research and international collaboration, expressing aspirations for expanded partnerships, particularly in the realms of medical-engineering integration and carbon neutrality to address global challenges. President Hofmann acknowledged the potential for deeper cooperation between the two institutions, especially in interdisciplinary research initiatives.

Engaging with Technical University of Munich

The delegation also toured TUM’s Institute for Thermodynamics and engaged in discussions on practical collaborations with Joachim Hornegger, President of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). Topics covered included joint projects in medicine and sustainable business practices, underscoring the significance of ongoing cooperation in research and talent development.

Visit to Adidas Headquarters

Furthermore, President Li visited the headquarters of Adidas, where he met with CEO Bjørn Gulden. The dialogue included expressions of gratitude for Gulden’s support of Tsinghua’s sports initiatives, as well as discussions on the university’s commitment to advancing sports development in China and exploring potential collaborative efforts in research and competitive sports.

Connecting with Tsinghua Alumni

On January 18, President Li and his delegation met with Tsinghua alumni residing in Germany, providing updates on the university’s reforms and encouraging alumni engagement in national development. The delegation also interacted with students participating in a social practice program in Germany, emphasizing the importance of broadening their perspectives during their time abroad.
