“Online Academic Seminar by HUST ICARE and Università di Padova’s Industrial Engineering Department”

An online academic seminar was held on March 25, involving students and faculty from the China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE) at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the Department of Industrial Engineering (DIE) at Università di Padova. The event commenced with remarks from HUST Vice President Zhang Yonghui.
Opening Remarks
During the opening, Zhang highlighted the collaborative efforts between China and Italy in addressing climate change, with both countries establishing strategic timelines for achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 and 2050, respectively. He underscored HUST’s role as a leading institution in China’s response to the global energy transition, emphasizing the promotion of clean energy technologies and international cooperation. Zhang expressed the hope that the seminar would enable the sharing of insights and technologies that contribute to sustainable development.
Remarks from Università di Padova
Massimiliano Zattin, Vice President of Università di Padova, acknowledged the significance of the event for faculty and students from both institutions. He noted that discussions and collaborations could foster new ideas, and he advocated for enhanced cultural exchanges and cooperative initiatives aimed at global development. Zattin provided an overview of Università di Padova and the DIE while encouraging mutual learning and collaborative research efforts.
Research Presentations
The seminar featured presentations from nineteen researchers on subjects such as hydrogen and energy storage, thermoelectricity, and energy efficiency. The event concluded with remarks from the Deans of ICARE and DIE, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening academic collaboration.
Future Collaboration
In December 2024, ICARE and DIE formalized their partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the exchange of faculty and students, as well as to explore joint talent development programs. Additionally, ICARE is set to host students from DIE for a global summer school titled “Global Clean and Renewable Energy Experience Camp at HUST” in July 2025.
Conclusion
This seminar signifies a noteworthy advancement in the academic partnership between Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Università di Padova, particularly in the context of clean and renewable energy research.
