Professor Tetsuya Sakurai of the University of Tsukuba Announces NVIDIA Collaboration to Enhance AI Research

Professor Tetsuya Sakurai, Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research at the University of Tsukuba, has announced a collaboration with NVIDIA during the GTC 2025 conference, which took place from March 17 to 21 in San Jose, California.

This collaboration involves a partnership between the University of Tsukuba and the University of Washington, designed to strengthen AI research initiatives between Japan and the United States. NVIDIA has committed to providing $25 million to support research projects at both institutions.

On March 19, Professor Sakurai met with Jack Wells, NVIDIA’s Director of Higher Education and Research Computing, to explore potential collaborative efforts. Following their discussion, Professor Sakurai indicated that they addressed various ways to work together, including the utilization of NVIDIA’s tools and GPUs in research activities and the organization of seminars and training sessions for students. The University of Tsukuba aims to establish a strong foundation for AI research in Japan through this initiative.
