Tsinghua University Holds 2026 International Scholars New Year Reception

The 2026 International Scholars New Year Reception at Tsinghua University took place on December 19 at the New Tsinghua Xuetang. This event marked the 11th gathering associated with the Beijing International Scholars Exchange Platform and featured notable attendees, including Professor Yang Bin, Vice Chancellor of Tsinghua University Council, and Professor Chen Deliang, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Event Attendance and Purpose
Approximately 130 guests from 28 countries and regions attended, representing international scholars and their families from 14 different schools and departments within Tsinghua University. Attendees also included representatives from partner institutions such as Beijing Foreign Studies University and the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration. The reception aimed to foster cultural exchange as participants welcomed the New Year.
Remarks by Professor Yang Bin
During his address, Professor Yang Bin offered New Year greetings to the international scholarly community. He acknowledged the growth and diversity of Tsinghua’s international scholars over the past year and highlighted the university’s efforts to enhance the Beijing International Scholars Exchange Platform. Yang also discussed initiatives to promote cultural immersion activities and high-level academic lectures, emphasizing Tsinghua’s commitment to creating an open and inclusive academic environment that supports knowledge innovation and international collaboration.
Cultural Activities and Performances
The International Students & Scholars Center organized interactive cultural booths that showcased elements of traditional Chinese culture, including calligraphy, Peking Opera mask painting, and games. One of the evening’s highlights was a surprise performance by Amy Cheung, the daughter of Tsinghua international scholar Professor Yitwah Cheung, which received positive reactions from the audience.
Conclusion and Gala Event
As the event concluded, attendees participated in a group photo session to commemorate the gathering. Following this, guests moved on to the 2026 International Students and Scholars New Year Gala, themed “Rhythm of the World,” which included a variety of performances aimed at enhancing cross-cultural engagement within the campus community.
