Chulalongkorn University Selected as One of Twelve APUCEN Council Members to Drive Social Engagement Strategy

Chulalongkorn University has been designated as one of the twelve council members of the Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) during the 5th APUCEN Summit, which took place in Chongqing, China, from December 17 to 20, 2024. This appointment underscores the university’s involvement in advancing social engagement strategies.

Participation at the APUCEN Summit

Representatives from Chulalongkorn University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanasin Chutintaranond and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pongchai Dumrongrojwatthana, presented at the summit on “Community Engagement Activities for Reforestation and Afforestation by Chulalongkorn University.” Their project, focusing on the application of Ectomycorrhiza in forest restoration efforts, garnered significant interest from other participating institutions.

Joining the APUCEN Network

With this new membership, Chulalongkorn University joins a network of 106 educational institutions across 21 countries, facilitating the expansion of its “CU Social Engagement” strategy. This initiative, guided by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yootthana Chuppunnarat, vice president of Chulalongkorn University, emphasizes three primary components:

  1. Social Engagement for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  2. Social Engagement for Thai Society
  3. Cultural Engagement for Art and Music Communities

Commitment to Social Engagement

The university’s participation in the APUCEN Summit 2024 highlights its dedication to social engagement initiatives and opens avenues for collaboration with international networks aimed at promoting sustainable social and environmental development. The APUCEN network is focused on enhancing social engagement within higher education and fostering partnerships to improve the quality of life in the Asia-Pacific region.
