Singapore Management University (SMU) is introducing a new suite of courses for Academic Year 2026/27, beginning 17 August 2026, as it prepares students for a future increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence (AI).
The new offerings cover AI, sustainability, law, psychology, business, technology and the arts, with several courses designed to encourage interdisciplinary learning. Students will explore areas such as AI applications in accounting and financial services, identity and multiculturalism, strategic management and Singapore’s cultural heritage.
The new curriculum supports SMU’s AI in Education Strategy, endorsed in February 2026, which aims to equip students with strong disciplinary knowledge alongside critical thinking, independent reasoning, ethical judgement, creativity and collaboration. Students will also develop the ability to use AI responsibly and effectively while understanding the distinctly human skills that remain essential.
Among the key initiatives is the Financial Services AI Immersion Programme, developed under the Young Talent Programme – AI in Finance in collaboration with industry partners and Singapore’s financial-sector institutions. The programme combines academic learning, industry projects and experiential opportunities to build AI capabilities among future finance professionals.
SMU is also expanding work-study opportunities through programmes that connect students with companies, start-ups, NGOs and social-impact initiatives. Together, these initiatives aim to develop graduates who are technologically capable, adaptable, socially conscious and prepared to contribute meaningfully to an AI-enabled society.
