UTAR Hosts Peking University Delegation for Enhanced Academic Collaboration and Exchange

On January 20, 2026, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) hosted a delegation from Peking University (PKU) at its Sungai Long Campus. The purpose of the visit was to enhance mutual understanding and discuss potential collaborations in research and postgraduate education.

Delegation Overview

The delegation was led by Professor Dr. Zhang Jin, Executive Vice President and Dean of the Shenzhen Graduate School, and included prominent members such as Professor Dr. Zou Ruqiang, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, along with other representatives from PKU’s Shenzhen Graduate School and its alumni association in Malaysia.

UTAR Delegation Leadership

The UTAR delegation was headed by President Ir Professor Dato’ Dr. Ewe Hong Tat, who was accompanied by various academic and administrative leaders. Professor Dato’ Ewe articulated UTAR’s focus on holistic education, internationalization, and research aligned with industry needs. He highlighted the university’s extensive network of approximately 890 global partners, including more than 230 institutions from China, and voiced a commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in research and educational exchanges.

Professor Zhang’s Remarks

In his remarks, Professor Zhang reiterated PKU’s dedication to internationalization and expressed the intent to attract more Malaysian students for postgraduate studies. He highlighted the diverse academic offerings at PKU and indicated a desire for deeper collaboration with UTAR to promote academic exchange and joint research initiatives.

Concluding Activities

The visit included discussions on potential collaboration areas and concluded with a souvenir exchange and a group photo to commemorate the strengthening of ties between the two institutions. Additionally, the PKU Shenzhen Graduate School held an information session on graduate programs for UTAR students, which was live-streamed to the Kampar Campus.
