55th Inter-Varsity Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament Showcases Strong UM–NUS Collaboration

Universiti Malaya (UM) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have celebrated the successful conclusion of the 55th Inter-Varsity Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament, reinforcing more than five decades of friendship, collaboration, and academic partnership between two of Southeast Asia’s leading universities.
Held from 29 to 30 July 2026 in Singapore, the annual event brought together university leaders, alumni, academics, staff, and distinguished guests for a series of activities highlighting institutional cooperation beyond sports. The tournament was also part of UM’s 121st anniversary celebration (UM121), commemorating the university’s legacy of excellence, innovation, and service.
The event featured a friendly golf competition, the UM-NUS Academic Symposium focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), and a gala dinner attended by prominent leaders from Malaysia and Singapore. The main tournament took place at Tanah Merah Country Club, followed by a prize presentation celebrating sportsmanship and collaboration.
UM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman highlighted that the tournament serves as an important platform for strengthening relationships, exchanging ideas, and creating new opportunities for cooperation between both institutions.
Since its introduction in 1968, the Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament has grown into a significant annual tradition that supports broader collaboration in education, research, innovation, student engagement, and leadership development. The continued partnership between UM and NUS reflects their shared commitment to advancing higher education excellence and regional cooperation.
