Hong Kong Polytechnic University Delegation Visits University of Colombo to Enhance Academic Collaboration

The University of Colombo welcomed a delegation from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on 23 July 2026 to explore opportunities for expanding academic collaboration and international engagement. The visit reflects both institutions’ commitment to strengthening global partnerships in higher education through research, teaching and academic exchange.

The PolyU delegation included Council Chairman Dr Tai-fai Lam, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) Professor Ben Young, Director of the Confucius Institute of Hong Kong Professor Maggie Lu, Deputy Director of Global Engagement Mr Gavin Ngai and Executive Officer Ms Mengqing Fu. They were received by University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake and Director of the International Office Dr Iroja Caldera.

During the discussions, Professor Ben Young highlighted PolyU’s strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation and community service. Professor Karunathilake noted that collaboration in technology and nursing would be particularly valuable, as these are emerging academic disciplines at the University of Colombo.

The meeting focused on identifying areas for future cooperation, including student and staff mobility, joint academic initiatives, teaching support and knowledge exchange. Both universities expressed optimism that the partnership would foster greater international collaboration, enhance educational opportunities and contribute to academic excellence for students and faculty across both institutions.
