Syrian Higher Education Delegation Visits Hacettepe University to Explore Academic Cooperation

Hacettepe University hosted a high-level delegation from Syria led by Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to discuss opportunities for strengthening academic and institutional cooperation between universities in Türkiye and Syria.
The delegation included Syrian deputy ministers, senior officials from the Higher Education Council, rectors of Damascus and Aleppo universities, and representatives responsible for international cooperation, scholarships, research and institutional development.
Hacettepe University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran welcomed the delegation and highlighted the university’s internationalisation strategy, research-focused structure and commitment to global academic partnerships. He emphasized the importance of university cooperation in advancing scientific research, knowledge exchange and higher education.
During the visit, Hacettepe’s International Relations and Protocols Office presented the university’s academic structure, research infrastructure, internationalisation policies, mobility programmes and experience in international projects.
The two sides discussed potential areas for long-term collaboration, including joint postgraduate programmes, student and academic staff exchanges, health sciences and collaborative research projects. They also explored ways to increase joint scientific events and facilitate knowledge and experience sharing.
Both delegations expressed their commitment to turning discussions into concrete and sustainable institutional partnerships. The visit is expected to contribute to renewed academic relations between Türkiye and Syria and create opportunities for joint research, education and scientific initiatives.
