King Abdulaziz University Launches Saudi Arabia’s First Bachelor’s Programs in Railway Transport
King Abdulaziz University (KAU) and the Transport General Authority (TGA) have launched Saudi Arabia’s first specialized bachelor’s programs in railway transport at KAU’s campus in Jeddah, marking a significant step in developing national expertise for the Kingdom’s growing rail sector.
The newly approved programs include Railway Engineering and Planning, jointly supervised by the Faculties of Engineering and Architecture and Planning, and a Bachelor of Science in Logistics Management and Railway Transport Services, offered through the Faculties of Economics and Administration and Tourism.
The programs have been designed to address the railway industry’s evolving workforce requirements and prepare qualified Saudi graduates in engineering, planning, logistics and transport services. The initiative reflects growing cooperation between academic and regulatory institutions to connect higher education with national infrastructure and labor market needs.
The partnership builds on a memorandum of understanding signed between KAU and TGA in November 2024. It focuses on knowledge exchange, specialized training, expertise development and strengthening national capabilities in railway transport.
The initiative supports Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy and aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, particularly its goals of developing human capital, empowering national talent and increasing local content.
As KAU prepares for the 1448 AH academic year, students will have access to these specialized programs for the first time at bachelor’s level in the Kingdom, supporting the future expansion and localization of Saudi Arabia’s railway sector.
