Kurdistan University convened its University Council meeting on 1 August 2026 with the participation of the Governor of Kurdistan Province, university leaders, government officials, faculty representatives, and academic staff. The meeting served as a platform to review the university’s recent achievements and outline priorities for future development.
University President Adel Si-o-seh Mardeh highlighted the institution’s continued growth in education, research, and international engagement. As the province’s only comprehensive university, Kurdistan University now serves more than 10,000 students, supported by 447 faculty members, over 500 international students, and 254 academic programmes.
Among the major developments announced was the approval of 18 new master’s programmes and several doctoral programmes, significantly expanding the university’s postgraduate offerings. The president also confirmed the establishment of a new faculty in Saqqez, with student admissions scheduled to begin in October 2027, addressing the higher education needs of one of Iran’s largest cities previously without a university campus.
The university also reported notable research achievements, including nine faculty members ranked among the world’s top one percent of researchers and 23 recognised within the top two percent globally. Additional priorities include strengthening industry partnerships, increasing research funding, expanding international collaboration, introducing smart classrooms, and advancing innovation in teaching and technology. Faculty members concluded the meeting by discussing recent accomplishments, ongoing challenges, and strategies to support the university’s long-term development.
