Simfoni Team from FEB UGM Claims Victory in 2025 National Accounting Paper Competition

The Simfoni Team from the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) has secured first place in the Accounting Paper Competition (APC) during the 2025 Diponegoro Accounting’s Harmony (DASH). The team, comprising students Anne Grace Pardosi, Keyra Audrey Annabelle Christian, and Orie Priscylla Mapeda Lumalan, was recognized for their outstanding presentations among various competitors from universities throughout Indonesia.

Event Overview

The event took place on September 26-27, 2025, and was organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business at Diponegoro University (FEB UNDIP). Participants were tasked with tackling case studies related to the aviation industry in Indonesia, an important sector in the national economy that faces criticism for contributing approximately 1% of global carbon emissions and generating noise pollution that impacts public health.

Innovative Proposal

The Simfoni Team proposed an AI-based Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Predictive Analytics Hub. This integrated software platform would connect with airline operations to optimize flight routes and implement Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with the goal of significantly reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, the platform is designed to monitor noise levels, gauge public sentiment, and improve transparency and regulatory compliance.

Research Methodology

Lumalan stated that the team’s paper was the result of extensive research utilizing a mixed-method approach, which included descriptive research, systematic literature reviews, risk mapping, SWOT analysis, and ESG performance evaluation through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Commitment to Sustainability

The proposal aims to support the transition toward a greener economy and advance sustainable practices in the national aviation sector. Lumalan acknowledged that winning first place was an unexpected yet motivating outcome for the team, especially in light of the strong competition from other esteemed universities recognized for their research capabilities.

Conclusion

This achievement highlights the commitment to academic excellence and innovation among students at FEB UGM.
