Honorary Order of the Rising Sun Awarded to IRCN Director Takao Hensch

Dr. Takao Hensch, Director of the International Research Center for Neurointelligence (IRCN) and a professor at Harvard University’s Center for Brain Science and the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. This honor was part of the 2024 Autumn Conferment of Decorations designated for Foreign Nationals.

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony occurred on August 27, 2025, at the residence of the Consul-General of Japan in Boston, recognizing Dr. Hensch’s significant contributions to neuroscience and his role in promoting academic exchange between the United States and Japan. Among the attendees was Nobel Laureate Dr. Susumu Tonegawa.

Recognition of Contributions

During the ceremony, Dr. Hensch received the badge of the Order of the Rising Sun along with a diploma from Seiichiro Takahashi, the Consul-General of Japan in Boston. The event underscored Dr. Hensch’s influential work within the field of neuroscience.
