NJU International Students Showcase Cultural Diversity at “Splendid World, Colorful Attire” Event
On October 26, 2024, the Graduate Student Union of Nanjing University organized a cultural fashion showcase titled “Splendid World, Colorful Attire” at the Nanqing Gelu venue on the Gulou Campus. This event featured over 20 students representing nine different countries who presented their traditional attire along with hands-on experiences and a runway show.
Insights into Traditional Clothing
Participants shared insights into the historical significance and cultural symbolism of their traditional clothing. Vietnamese students showcased the elegance of the Ao Dai, while Colombian students highlighted the vibrant Pollera and Mola. Traditional Shalwar Kameez, adorned with intricate Henna art, was presented by Pakistani students. Chinese students displayed modern adaptations of traditional Hanfu and invited international attendees to engage by trying on Mamian skirts.
Runway Show Highlighting Cultural Heritage
The event concluded with a runway show, where students paraded in their traditional outfits on a red carpet, displaying the rich diversity of their cultural heritage. Participants indicated that the fashion showcase underscored Nanjing University’s dedication to fostering an inclusive and diverse campus environment, facilitating unique opportunities for cultural exchange.
Promoting Cross-Cultural Understanding
The event promoted cross-cultural understanding and celebrated global dialogue through fashion, enhancing appreciation for international diversity among attendees.
