PGSS UTM’s Impact at the Global Student Leaders Summit 2024: Insights and Contributions
The Postgraduate Students Society (PGSS) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) participated in the Global Student Leaders Summit 2024 (GSLS ’24), held at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Political Sciences. This summit was organized by the Council of Leadership and Training of Malaysian Universities (MAKLUM) under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE). The event aimed to cultivate future global leaders and gathered student leaders from Malaysia and various other nations.
Opening Ceremony Highlights
The opening ceremony included presentations from prominent figures, including Professor Dr. Cemil Kaya, Deputy Rector of Istanbul University, and Hirman Awang, Director of the Student Affairs Division at MOHE. They emphasized the critical role of student leadership in fostering global collaboration. Another speaker, Prof. Dr. Shaharum Shamsuddin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), addressed the topic of the “Transformation Centre for People with Disability @ USM – An Evolution of Everlasting Hope.” Additional speakers provided insights into values-based leadership and the development of future leaders.
Leadership Dialogue
The second day of the summit featured a Leadership Dialogue focusing on “Global Leadership: The Role of Student Leaders in Shaping a Better World.” This segment included a panel discussion that showcased prominent postgraduate student leaders from Malaysia, Singapore, Türkiye, and Russia. The summit concluded with a prize-giving ceremony led by Mardiah Sabri, the Consul/Head of Chancery at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Istanbul.
Contributions of PGSS UTM
Members of PGSS UTM made significant contributions through research presentations that addressed various pressing issues and proposed innovative solutions in their fields. The summit also included a three-day study tour of Istanbul, which provided participants with opportunities for cultural engagement and networking.
