Vietnam National University, Hanoi Honors 120-Year Legacy of Excellence and Innovation in Education

Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) solemnly commemorated its 120th Anniversary (May 16, 1906 – May 16, 2026) alongside the awarding of the First-Class Labour Order, marking a historic milestone in the development of Vietnam’s first modern university model in Indochina. The ceremony highlighted VNU’s enduring legacy and its expanding national role in education, research, and innovation.

The event was attended by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, who presented the First-Class Labour Order in recognition of VNU’s outstanding contributions to high-quality human resource development, scientific research, innovation, and national service. Previously honored with the Gold Star Order in 2006, VNU continues to affirm its prestige as a leading academic institution in Vietnam.

In his address, VNU President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Duy emphasized that the 120-year journey represents a transition into a new era of knowledge-driven development. VNU has set ambitious goals to become a top-tier Asian university by 2030 and rank among the world’s top 300 by 2035, focusing on strategic technologies, digital transformation, and innovation.

The university also prioritizes the development of its Hoa Lac Campus into a modern “university town” and innovation hub, strengthening collaboration between academia, industry, and government while advancing Vietnam’s knowledge economy.
