KKU Hosts International Diplomacy and Partnership Forum 2026: Innovation and Isan Wisdom Integration with Global Representatives

Khon Kaen University (KKU), in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), organized the “Diplomacy and International Partnership Forum on Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation 2026” on January 29, 2026. The event focused on the integration of northeastern Thai (Isan) wisdom with advancements in science, technology, and innovation. It attracted over 110 participants, including representatives from 32 embassies, executives from 15 universities, and leaders from 14 research institutions.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony featured remarks from Ms. Pennapa Kanchana, Inspector General of MHESI, along with Assistant Professor Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D., who serves as Vice President for Education and Digital at KKU. The forum sought to promote “Science Diplomacy” as a tool for international cooperation while facilitating a platform for knowledge exchange and showcasing innovative research originating from the Isan region.
Significance of KKU Science Park
Assistant Professor Denpong highlighted the significance of the KKU Science Park in promoting regional development and reiterated the commitment to utilizing research for societal benefits, particularly in areas focusing on food security and sustainable technologies. The university’s approach of blending traditional Isan knowledge with modern scientific techniques was noted as a strategy to empower local farmers and businesses.
Presentations and Tours
The forum featured presentations on the contributions of the regional science park to vital industrial clusters. Participants were also given the opportunity to tour several innovation facilities, including the Food Pilot Plant, KKUVolts Battery and New Energy Science and Technology Factory, and the Industrial Insects Pilot Production Plant. Additionally, attendees visited the Isan Agricultural Fair 2026, which showcased agricultural innovations and the practical application of local wisdom in agribusiness.
Collaboration for Regional and Global Challenges
The event effectively brought together a diverse group of international participants, underscoring the potential for collaborative efforts to tackle regional and global challenges through the integration of science, technology, and traditional wisdom.
