HKU New Year Flag-Raising Ceremony 2026: Celebrating 115 Years of Excellence

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) recently conducted a flag-raising ceremony to mark the beginning of the new year. The event, held at the Grand Hall of the Centennial Campus, was attended by various stakeholders, including President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang, members of the Council, Senate, faculty, staff, students, and invited guests.
Celebrating Milestones
The ceremony not only signified the start of the new year but also underscored HKU’s 115th anniversary. This milestone reflects the university’s aim to establish itself as a prominent institution dedicated to “transforming humanity’s future.”
Global Recognition
In 2025, HKU achieved notable recognition globally, ranking first in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 and 11th in the QS World University Rankings 2026. Additionally, the university set a record with 54 academics featured in Clarivate’s “Highly Cited Researchers 2025,” placing HKU 13th worldwide among all institutions. These accomplishments highlight HKU’s robust reputation in academia and innovation.
