Christine Lee Wins 1st Runner-Up at Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta 2025

Christine Lee Jia Yun achieved second place in the International Premier Women 12s category at the 11th Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta 2025, which took place from October 24 to 26 at the Kuching Waterfront. The event attracted top athletes from around the world.

Team Role and Cohesion

Representing the Pacific West Dragon Boat Club, Lee served as the team’s drummer, a position that necessitated precise decision-making and effective communication during the races. Despite the team’s absence from competition for an extended period, they displayed strong cohesion and determination throughout the regatta.

Academic Pursuits

Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology through a partnership between INTI International College Penang and Southern New Hampshire University, Lee expressed her pride in representing both her team and her institution on an international stage. She acknowledged the challenges faced but emphasized the importance of focus and unity. Lee noted that participating in dragon boat racing has significantly enhanced her discipline, teamwork skills, and confidence.

Inspiration to Compete

Lee was inspired to enter the sport by her sister, whose enthusiasm and connections in the dragon boat community encouraged her involvement.

Training Regimen

Leading up to the regatta, Lee engaged in a demanding training regimen of five to six days per week, complemented by personal fitness routines to maintain her readiness for competition.

Support from Academia

Veerathayalani Heimkumar, a lecturer at INTI, praised Lee’s dedication and perseverance. The lecturer remarked on the inspiring nature of students who excel beyond academic expectations, highlighting the values of endurance and focus fostered at INTI.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Lee aims to motivate more students at INTI to participate in sports, stressing that athletics can cultivate confidence and enduring friendships. She asserted that consistent effort and a willingness to learn can enable individuals to improve their abilities.

As Lee continues to refine her skills, she remains enthusiastic about contributing to her team’s success in future competitions.
