Sailing to New Heights: SJTU’s 24 Journals Achieve Milestones in the 2024 JCR Release

On June 18, Clarivate released the 2024 edition of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), indicating that twenty-four academic journals from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) have been indexed, with 22 of these journals receiving impact factors. Among them, thirteen journals were classified in the first quartile (Q1), and ten were ranked among the top ten journals globally in their respective fields, reflecting the growth and increased international profile of SJTU’s academic publications.

Notable Achievements in Academic Journals

Significantly, the journal Nano-Micro Letters achieved an impact factor of 36.3, ranking third among Chinese-sponsored academic journals and 55th overall internationally. For two consecutive years, it has been recognized as one of the world’s top 100 journals, outperforming Nature Nanotechnology in both impact factor and publication numbers within its discipline. In the fields of Materials Science, Multidisciplinary, and Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Nano-Micro Letters ranks among the top six journals globally.

The Journal of Ocean Engineering and Science recorded an impact factor of 11.8, maintaining its status as the leading journal in Engineering, Marine and Engineering, and Ocean for three consecutive years, earning significant recognition from the scholarly community.

The journal Chip, which focuses exclusively on the chip industry, made its debut with an impact factor of 7.1. It has secured a Q1 ranking across multiple disciplines, including Engineering, Electrical & Electronic; Optics; and Applied Physics. The journal aims to address the evolving needs of China’s chip sector and to foster international collaboration.

Focus on Climate and Sustainability

Carbon Neutrality, dedicated to the topic of carbon neutrality, reported its inaugural impact factor of 12.5, positioning it eighth globally in Green & Sustainable Science & Technology and ranking among the top 15 in Energy & Fuels. Its contributions to climate change research include actionable solutions aimed at achieving net-zero emissions.

Superconductivity Research

The journal Superconductivity stands out as the only journal in the superconductivity field ranked in JCR Q1, featuring an impact factor of 6.3, an increase from the previous year. This journal addresses critical technological advancements related to superconductivity in China, positioning itself as a unifying platform for experts in the field.

Interdisciplinary Contributions

Interdisciplinary Sciences: Computational Life Sciences recorded an impact factor of 3.9, placing it ninth globally in Mathematical & Computational Biology. The journal showcases work from notable contributors, including Nobel Prize winner Luc Montagnier, and emphasizes interdisciplinary topics such as medical big data, artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics.

Future Plans and Developments

Under the strategic framework of SJTU’s “14th Five-Year Plan” for journal development, several other journals, including Translational Neurodegeneration, Molecular Horticulture, and China Finance Review International, have consistently maintained their Q1 rankings in their respective fields. The overall performance of SJTU’s journals reflects a 140% increase in acceptance by JCR since 2019, aligning with the university’s strategic interests in areas such as “Grand Ocean, Grand Health, and Grand Information.”

Looking forward to the 15th Five-Year Plan, SJTU aims to further enhance its global position as a leading university while supporting China’s innovation-driven development strategy, contributing to the establishment of an independent knowledge system and strengthening its global academic presence.
