Rakan Muda: Bakau Lestari 2026 Empowers MMU Students to Champion Environmental Sustainability

A total of 45 students from Multimedia University (MMU) participated in the Rakan Muda: Bakau Lestari 2026 programme, held from 5 to 7 June 2026 at Pulau Tanjung Surat, Johor. Organised by the MMU Rakan Muda Secretariat, the three-day, two-night initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness, volunteerism, and social responsibility among youth under the theme “Akar Kukuh, Khazanah Terjamin”.

The programme focused on preserving the mangrove ecosystem through hands-on conservation activities, including the planting of 300 mangrove saplings and coastal clean-up efforts. Participants also gained valuable insights into the importance of mangrove forests and biodiversity, learning how these ecosystems protect coastlines and support marine life.

Throughout the programme, students collaborated closely with local residents and environmental advocates, strengthening their leadership, teamwork, and community engagement skills. The initiative provided meaningful experiential learning opportunities beyond the classroom while encouraging participants to contribute positively to environmental sustainability.

The closing ceremony was attended by MMU President, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, alongside university representatives, community leaders, and government officials. The event also featured the distribution of essential items to asnaf families, highlighting the programme’s commitment to community service and compassion.

Through initiatives such as Bakau Lestari 2026, MMU continues to nurture socially responsible graduates dedicated to environmental stewardship and community development.
