University of Nairobi Hosts Indian High Commissioner, Launches Nairobi–New Delhi Dialogue on Innovation and Collaboration

The University of Nairobi welcomed the High Commissioner of India to Kenya, Dr. Adarsh Swaika, on Tuesday, 31st March 2026, for a courtesy call with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson. The visit marked a significant step toward strengthening Kenya–India relations and fostering closer collaboration between the University and the Indian High Commission.

During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of advancing bilateral relations through innovation, research, and the digital economy. Prof. Jesang highlighted the University’s role in bringing together scholars, students, and stakeholders to generate ideas and solutions to shared challenges. Dr. Swaika expressed interest in leveraging existing agreements and exploring new avenues for partnership, including initiatives to modernize University staff housing to attract international academics.

As part of the visit, the High Commissioner and Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the India Corner at the Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Library, featuring 100 books donated by the Indian Embassy to promote learning about Indian culture. They also paid tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi statue, reflecting the shared history and enduring cultural ties between Kenya and India.

The visit culminated with the inaugural Nairobi–New Delhi Dialogue, held at the Chandaria Auditorium under the theme “Reimagining Kenya–India Relations.” The dialogue brought together students, academics, diplomats, and experts from institutions including Multimedia University of Kenya, Strathmore University, Daystar University, and the Technical University of Kenya.

  • Education and research partnerships
  • Cultural and people-to-people connections

Participants agreed on the need to build a forward-looking partnership that supports youth, innovation, and sustainable development. The Dialogue concluded with a shared commitment to making the Nairobi–New Delhi Dialogue an annual event, highlighting a future-focused approach to Kenya–India collaboration through knowledge exchange, research, and innovation.
