Climbing the Huangyaguan Great Wall: A Cultural Experience for International Students at Tianjin University
International students from Tianjin University participated in visits to the Huangyaguan Great Wall on October 18 and 25, 2023. The visits involved over 400 students representing more than 100 countries and regions, highlighting the historical significance of the site, which is located 28 kilometers north of the Jizhou District in Tianjin.
Historical Significance of Huangyaguan Great Wall
The Huangyaguan Great Wall was originally built in 556 AD and underwent extensive renovations during the Ming dynasty, particularly under the guidance of the military general Qi Jiguang. This site is notable for its dual role as both a defensive wall and a historical fortress.
Exploring Cultural Heritage
During the excursions, students were able to explore China’s rich cultural heritage while appreciating the autumn scenery. The visits facilitated a deeper understanding of Chinese civilization and generated increased interest among students in the country’s history. This initiative is part of Tianjin University’s commitment to enhancing the global perspective of its international students.
