Sungkyunkwan University Hosts First Malaysian Global Alumni Reunion

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) organized its first Malaysian Alumni Reunion on June 20 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This event marked the university’s inaugural overseas gathering of international alumni, attracting approximately 50 participants from various sectors.

Welcome Address

The reunion commenced with a welcome address from Dean Minhyo Cho, who provided an overview of the university’s initiatives and achievements. During the event, several notable alumni were appointed as SKKU Global Ambassadors. Among them, Dr. Mohd Nizam Husen, a Ph.D. graduate in Computer Engineering, received this designation. Dr. Nizam, who currently serves as the Dean of the Malaysia Institute of Information Technology at the University of Kuala Lumpur, has made significant contributions to academic exchange and talent development in Malaysia.

Alumni Contributions

Most attendees at the reunion were former recipients of government scholarships and have established careers with prominent companies such as Samsung, SK, Accenture, Motorola, and Maybank, thereby playing a substantial role in their nation’s development.

Reconnecting Alumni

The gathering provided a platform for alumni to reconnect and aimed to enhance SKKU’s global alumni network. Dean Cho emphasized the value of these events for maintaining connections and expressed hopes for increased international alumni engagement in the future.

Promoting Collaborative Opportunities

Additionally, representatives from the Office of International Affairs participated in an admissions information session at the University of Kuala Lumpur during their visit. This session focused on promoting SKKU and exploring potential collaborative opportunities.
