International Student Recognized as Kyoto Prefecture Honorary Friendship Ambassador for Academic Year 2026

An international student from the Faculty of Letters has been appointed as a Kyoto Prefecture Honorary Friendship Ambassador for the 2026 academic year, recognizing her commitment to strengthening international understanding and cultural exchange.
Ms Kim Minseo, a third-year student, received the appointment during the Kyoto Prefectural Foundation Day Commemorative Ceremony held on 19 June at Kyoto Prefectural Hall. She is one of ten international students selected this year to serve as an Honorary Friendship Ambassador.
The Kyoto Prefecture Honorary Friendship Ambassador programme recognises international students studying in the prefecture who demonstrate enthusiasm for promoting mutual understanding between Kyoto and the global community. Ambassadors act as cultural representatives, helping foster friendships and encouraging international collaboration through community engagement.
Throughout their appointment, the ambassadors will participate in a range of activities organised by the prefectural government, local municipalities, and educational institutions. These include cultural exchange programmes, school visits, and events designed to strengthen connections between Kyoto and its friendship regions around the world.
Ms Kim’s appointment reflects both her dedication to cross-cultural engagement and the valuable contributions made by international students to the local community. The recognition also highlights Kyoto Prefecture’s ongoing commitment to internationalisation by creating opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to build meaningful global partnerships and promote cultural understanding.
