Amor Family Expands Scholarship Program at Silliman University to Support More Students

The Amor family has announced an expansion of its scholarship program at Silliman University, which will include eight new scholarships available starting from the academic year 2026-2027. This decision follows an agreement made between the Amor family and the university, which already features four existing endowed scholarships.

Current Scholarship Offerings

The current scholarships support students in mass communication, medicine, and nursing. The new scholarships will extend opportunities to students pursuing degrees in fields such as agriculture, anthropology, education, engineering, history, law, medical technology, performing arts, physical therapy, political science, and social work. The scholarships are valued between PHP 40,000 and PHP 80,000 annually, with a total endowment of PHP 12,000,000 allocated for these scholarships, bringing the overall endowment for the Amor scholarships and other funds to PHP 16,000,000.

New Scholarships Announced

The newly created scholarships are named in honor of various family members and associates:

  • Amalia G. and Alejo B. Amor Scholarship (for College of Education students)
  • Alex J. and Boots S. Amor Scholarship (for College of Agriculture students)
  • Audrey J. Amor and Claudio Ablona Scholarship (for nursing, physical therapy, or medical technology students)
  • Alexdel J. Amor Scholarship (for College of Engineering students)
  • Averill J. and Mae C. Amor Scholarship (for College of Law students)
  • Armida J. Amor Scholarship (for students majoring in Political Science)
  • Christopher Cofone Scholarship (for Social Work students)
  • Karen Anne Makovica Scholarship (for female College of Law students)

Legacy and Commitment

The current scholarship offerings already recognize Alexander G. Amor, Delia J. Amor, Adlai J. Amor, Arnel J. Amor, and Dr. Avelex S. Amor. In addition to the scholarships, the Amor family has established the Delia J. Amor Endowment for Campus Ministry, the Alexander G. Amor Electronic Newsroom, and the Villegas-de la Vina History Lecture Series, along with a commitment to support the reconstruction of SU Alumni Hall.

Dedication and Application Process

Adlai J. Amor, a notable alumnus and recipient of the 1994 Outstanding Sillimanian Award, stated that three generations of the Amor family have benefitted from their affiliation with Silliman University as employees, scholars, and students. The formal dedication of the scholarships and endowments is set to take place during a memorial service on May 14, 2026, at the Udarbe Memory Chapel.
