Chula and Tsinghua Universities Co-Host the Inaugural Lancang-Mekong Art Realm Conference Celebrating 50 Years of Thailand-China Relations

Chulalongkorn University and Tsinghua University co-hosted the inaugural “Lancang–Mekong Art Realm” conference on November 29, 2025, at the Alumni Association Building of Chulalongkorn University. This event was organized to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China.

Opening Remarks

The conference began with an introductory speech by Professor Dr. Kumkom Pornprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at Chulalongkorn University. Notable attendees included Professor Wang Jiansong, Dean of the School of Fine Arts and Design at Tsinghua University, and Professor Jin Hui, Dean of the School of Fine Arts at Minjiang University.

Conference Theme and Objectives

Under the theme “Dialogue from China to Southeast Asia: Practical Sharing and Ethical Collaboration Across Borders for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH),” the conference aimed to promote the exchange of ideas related to creative research. Scholars, researchers, and doctoral students presented their work concerning the artistic and cultural relations between Chinese civilization and Southeast Asia. The agenda featured an art exhibition and discussions on artistic innovation important for the preservation of cultural heritage.

Participation and Support

Approximately 120 participants from four Thai universities—Chulalongkorn University, Silpakorn University, Chiang Mai University, and Pathum Thani University—attended the event, alongside representatives from nine Chinese universities, including Tsinghua University and Minjiang University.

Significance of the Conference

The conference also received academic support from various institutions and organizations, underscoring the collaborative efforts to enhance cultural ties. Mr. Poompichai Tarndamrong from the Ministry of Culture of Thailand delivered welcoming remarks at the event.

This conference represents a crucial advancement in promoting academic collaboration and fostering appreciation for cultural heritage between Thailand and China.
