Unlocking AI: UTM Public Lecture Explores the Path from Individual Potential to Precision Innovation

The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), hosted a public lecture titled “Unlocking AI: From Individual Potential to Precision Innovation” on 18 August 2026 at UTM Kuala Lumpur.
The lecture featured Prof. Dr. Jack Lau, Board Director of Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), Adjunct Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and Director of the AI Hub at City University of Hong Kong.
The programme brought together UTM leaders, academics, students and guests for discussions on emerging artificial intelligence trends and opportunities for future collaboration. A strategic engagement session between Prof. Dr. Lau and UTM Kuala Lumpur and FAI management explored developments in AI and potential areas for academic and strategic cooperation.
During the public lecture, Prof. Dr. Lau discussed the evolution of AI towards multi-agent systems, where multiple AI agents can collaborate, perform specialised roles and improve outputs through iterative processes. He also highlighted “precision AI” solutions tailored to specific users, tasks and industries.
The session examined AI’s potential to support entrepreneurship, enable specialised technology solutions and create opportunities for smaller teams. At the same time, the lecture highlighted energy efficiency as a critical challenge as AI infrastructure and data centres demand increasing computing and cooling resources.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and appreciation ceremony.
