Curtin Malaysia Pre-Graduation Gathering: Inspiring Final-Year Students for Their Professional Journey

On October 9, 2025, Curtin University Malaysia organized a Pre-Graduation Gathering designed to assist 108 final-year students in transitioning to their professional careers. The event recognized the academic achievements of students from the Faculties of Engineering and Science, Business, and Humanities and Health Sciences, and signified the onset of new opportunities for the graduates.

Event Overview

The gathering included practical briefings, inspirational sessions, and networking opportunities intended to prepare students for life after graduation. The event was officiated by Professor Tuong-Thuy Vu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, on behalf of Professor Vincent Lee, Pro Vice-Chancellor, President, and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia.

Address by Professor Vu

In his address, Professor Vu highlighted that graduation represents a beginning rather than a conclusion and urged students to acknowledge their resilience while considering the future possibilities. He also noted that the graduates would join a global network of over 270,000 Curtin alumni, with more than 20,000 residing in Malaysia.

Faculty-Specific Sessions

The event featured specific sessions tailored to each faculty, followed by an overview of essential graduation procedures, academic requirements, potential postgraduate pathways, and alumni benefits such as career support and discounts.

Alumni Forum

A key component of the gathering was an alumni forum, where four notable alumni provided insights into career development and industry trends. The alumni participants included Emir Imran Tan and Gigi Hii Shu Qi from the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Wong Rui Jing from the Faculty of Business, and Guang Ao Goh from the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences.

Conclusion of the Gathering

The gathering concluded with a lucky draw and a group photo session, fostering a sense of achievement and hope among the students as they prepare for their future endeavors.

Attendees included various academic staff members: Professor John Lau Sie Yon, Deputy Dean of the Curtin Malaysia Graduate School; Valerie Velina Anaelechi, Head of the Department of General Studies in the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences; and Chin Li Yen, Manager of Careers and Alumni Relations.
