Walailak University President Participates in 16th Thailand–Indonesia University Presidents Conference in Indonesia

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, participated in the 16th Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) and Council of Rectors of Indonesian State Universities (CRISU) Conference held from August 24 to 27, 2025, at the Nusantara Capital Authority Headquarters in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. This authority is responsible for the development of Indonesia’s new capital city, IKN, also known as the City Hall of Nusantara.
Conference Themes and Activities
The conference addressed significant themes such as “Food Sovereignty and Security” and “Leadership for a Sustainable Future in Nusantara.” The event featured a keynote lecture by Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education and Technology, along with discussions among ministers and university presidents from Thailand and Indonesia. Additional activities included parallel sessions for senior executives, student engagement initiatives, and a tree-planting project designed to promote sustainability.
About CUPT-CRISU Conference
Established in 2010, the CUPT–CRISU Conference aims to facilitate cooperation among higher education institutions in Thailand and Indonesia. It seeks to enhance academic collaboration through programs for student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, and policy development that supports sustainable higher education practices in the ASEAN region. The annual conference alternates between Thailand and Indonesia, fostering strategic partnerships among universities in both countries within the ASEAN framework.
