Thammasat Student Represent Thai Youth at the 79th UN General Assembly

Ranchida Rojanakij, or “Bell,” a second-year student in the Political Science Program in Politics and International Relations (BIR) of the Faculty of Political Science at Thammasat University, has been selected as one of two representatives of Thai youth to participate in the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York City, United States of America.
Ranchida has fulfilled her lifelong dream by representing Thai youth at the 79th United Nations General Assembly. The young representative delivered a statement on youth participation in social development, echoing her passion for social justice and youth empowerment. During her three-week mission in New York, she also had the privilege of meeting UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who emphasized the importance of youth involvement in global decision-making.
Ranchida had the opportunity to engage with prominent figures in the international arena. She met with the Deputy Permanent Representative of Switzerland during their presidency of the UN Security Council and discussed the role of youth in global peace and security. She also participated in a side event with youth representatives from various countries, addressing diverse issues such as youth peace initiatives, environmental concerns, education for the hearing-impaired, and human rights. Furthermore, she met with representatives from various UN agencies to gain insights into their work and potential collaborations.
“Another mission of great pride is that I had the opportunity to organize a parallel event alongside the representatives of Mexican youth under the theme ‘Youth on Equality: Sharing Best Practices on Gender Equality for Social Development.’ This parallel event marks the first time that Thai youth representative have initiated a project in collaboration with international partners,” stated Ranjida.
