26th Academic Exchange Seminar Highlights: Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Osaka University Collaboration
The 26th Academic Exchange Seminar between Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Osaka University (OU) took place from November 6 to November 8, 2024. This event, part of a partnership that began in 1995, drew over 100 participants, including 20 representatives from Osaka University.
Fields of Discussion
The seminar addressed seven different fields: joining and welding, materials, laser technology, naval architecture and ocean engineering, industrial biotechnology, combustion engineering, and smart cities. Activities included workshops and tours of facilities at SJTU.
Opening Ceremony Highlights
The opening ceremony on November 7 featured addresses from Dr. Zhou Cheng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee, and Professor Fukase Koichi, Executive Vice President for Global Engagement at Osaka University. Their speeches emphasized the historical significance of the seminar and expressed hopes for enhanced collaboration and exploration of new areas of exchange.
Research Collaborations Update
Following the opening remarks, representatives from various subcommittees provided updates on their research collaborations, outlining progress and achievements. Plans were confirmed to continue the seminar in the future to further reinforce the partnership between the two universities.
Advancing Cooperation
Additionally, Dr. Zhou and Professor Fukase convened to discuss the “Inochi Declaration,” which is anticipated to be formulated ahead of the Expo 2025 in Osaka. The discussion highlighted their commitment to advancing cooperation in both research and education, underlining the extensive history of collaboration between SJTU and OU.
