Historic AKU–Sindh Partnership Aims to Transform Nursing Training and Workforce

Aga Khan University and Government of Sindh Forge Landmark Partnership to Expand Nursing Education, Strengthen Rural Healthcare Workforce, and Address Critical Shortages in Pakistan

The Aga Khan University (AKU), in collaboration with the Department of Health, Government of Sindh, and local authorities in Tando Muhammad Khan, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Sindh to advance nursing education and strengthen healthcare delivery in rural Pakistan. The partnership will support the rollout of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme, with the first cohort expected to enroll in 2027. This strategic public–private collaboration aims to expand access to high-quality training, address critical workforce shortages, and improve health outcomes in underserved communities. With Pakistan facing a significant shortage of nurses—particularly in rural areas—the initiative aligns with global priorities highlighted by the World Health Organization. By leveraging AKU’s expertise in nursing education, the programme will empower local communities, enhance professional standards, and contribute to building a more resilient and equitable healthcare system across Sindh.
