IPB University Alumni from Minang Initiates Lembaga Didikan Subuh (LDS) Program

IPB University alumni linked to the Alumni Association of the Minang Student and Student Association (PAPMM) in Bogor have established the Lembaga Didikan Subuh (LDS) program. This initiative aims to provide educational experiences for children, ranging from elementary to high school, emphasizing activities conducted during the early morning hours.

Program Overview

The didikan subuh program encourages children to participate in dawn prayers at local mosques, followed by a variety of educational sessions. These sessions cover a range of subjects, including Islamic teachings, practical life skills, and creative activities. The program is held on Saturday and Sunday mornings, running from dawn until approximately 7 AM.

Implementation and Feedback

Currently, the program has been implemented at three mosques in the Ciomas area of Bogor. Support for the initiative comes from both PAPMM alumni and students from IPB University, who act as facilitators. Feedback from parents has been generally positive, with many viewing the program as a constructive alternative for their children’s weekend engagements, particularly in contrast to activities centered around electronic devices.

Trainer of Trainers Concept

To enhance the effectiveness of the program, PAPMM has introduced a trainer of trainers (ToT) concept. This aims to prepare mosque administrators to take on roles as trainers and assistants for the LDS program, which is considered essential for its success.

Inaugural Training Session

The inaugural ToT session included 42 participants from various regions, such as Bogor Regency, Bogor City, and Depok City. Dr. Yan Efri, the chief executive and Chairman of the LDS PAPMM, expressed a desire to expand this initiative and collaborate with local religious offices to further promote the didikan subuh program.

Community Engagement

Prof. Yonvitner, the Chairman of PAPMM and advisor for IPMM, underscored the significance of the association’s contributions to the community. He articulated the belief that even small efforts can yield substantial effects. Additionally, support for the initiative has been provided by the Paguyuban Dosen Minang IPB, led by Prof. Khaswar Syamsu, reflecting a wider community engagement effort.
