Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand’s Visit to Beijing Normal University
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited Beijing Normal University (BNU) on April 10, 2023, as part of her trip to China, which took place from April 7 to 13 at the invitation of the Chinese government. The visit was marked by a reception from BNU President Yu Jihong.
Significance of the Visit
During the meeting, President Yu highlighted the significance of the visit, noting that it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China. She commended the Princess’s dedication to enhancing educational exchanges between the two countries.
Collaborative Efforts
In response, Princess Sirindhorn expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and acknowledged the collaborative efforts among BNU, the Chaipattana Foundation, and other organizations. She indicated a strong interest in advancing cooperation in areas such as rural education, youth exchange programs, and sustainable development.
International Capacity Building Workshop
On the same day, BNU, in partnership with the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (UNESCO INRULED) and the Chaipattana Foundation, co-hosted the 2025 International Capacity Building Workshop on Education for Sustainable Rural Development. During the opening ceremony, President Yu welcomed the Princess and provided an overview of BNU’s development and partnerships with Thai educational institutions.
Keynote Address
In her keynote address, Princess Sirindhorn underscored the collaboration between the Chaipattana Foundation and China in the agricultural and rural development sectors. She praised the achievements made in partnership with BNU and UNESCO INRULED concerning building leadership capacities for sustainable rural development. The Princess also emphasized the importance of this partnership in addressing poverty and fostering long-term sustainability.
Visit to BNU History Museum
Additionally, the Princess and her delegation toured the BNU History Museum and library, where she reviewed historical exhibits and visited themed displays related to Thai culture, educational materials, and rare book collections.
Promoting China-Thailand Relations
Princess Sirindhorn has played a vital role in promoting China-Thailand relations, particularly through initiatives in education, culture, and technology. Following this visit, BNU aims to enhance its collaborations with Thai universities and research institutions, furthering educational ties and reinforcing the friendship between China and Thailand.
