SUT Showcases Agricultural Technology Innovations to Thai Agriculture Officials
Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) welcomed Somsak Thepsuthin, Chairman of the Committee for Driving Key Policies of the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and more than 50 officials from Nakhon Ratchasima to explore agricultural research and innovations on August 11, 2026.
The visit highlighted SUT’s efforts to transform research into practical technologies that address challenges faced by farmers and strengthen Thailand’s agricultural sector.
Among the featured innovations was a liquid nitrate fertilizer production machine that uses a high-frequency electric field to convert atmospheric nitrogen into concentrated nitrate fertilizer. The technology could reduce dependence on imported fertilizers and lower production costs to around 0.20 baht per litre.
Researchers also demonstrated a durian CT scanning technology capable of detecting whether fruit is immature, mature or affected by pests, with reported accuracy of 95% and results available within three seconds.
The delegation also learned about disease-free cassava propagation using tissue culture and mini stem-cutting techniques, developed in collaboration with BIOTEC and NSTDA. The approach aims to rapidly produce healthy planting materials and reduce the spread of cassava mosaic disease.
The visit included demonstrations of the technologies and a tour of SUT’s cassava propagation farm. The university emphasized its commitment to translating research into practical solutions that support farmers, economic development and sustainable agriculture.
