LSPR Institute Students Launch Inclusive Communication Initiative for the Deaf Community in West Jakarta

Students from the Public Relations Digital Communication programme at LSPR Institute of Communication & Business have launched INTUISI (Interaksi Untuk Inklusi), an inclusive communication initiative designed to improve accessibility and social inclusion for the Deaf community in West Jakarta. The programme was inspired by local demographic data showing that more than 20 Deaf residents of various ages live in Sukabumi Selatan, where limited public knowledge of sign language continues to create communication barriers.
Developed as part of the University’s Community Development programme under faculty supervision, INTUISI promotes equal communication opportunities through sign language education, community outreach, and public awareness campaigns. Its activities include DIAM (Dengan Isyarat Aku Menyapa), which provides sign language training for local community groups, door-to-door visits to Deaf residents and their families, the BISIK (Bahasa Isyarat Itu Asik) digital awareness campaign, and educational talk shows on inclusive communication.
The initiative also collaborates with SMKN 45 Jakarta, engaging students alongside Deaf ambassadors from LSPR School of Special Needs Education and the partner school to ensure meaningful community participation. The programme concluded with an educational talk show attended by 171 participants, featuring experts in Deaf education and inclusive technology. Through INTUISI, LSPR continues to foster empathy, accessibility, and stronger community engagement while promoting a more inclusive society for all.
