UPM Students Secure Three Awards at Pentas Karya Agung Melayu Storytelling Competition

Students from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) achieved outstanding success at the Pentas Karya Agung Melayu storytelling competition, organised by Yayasan Karyawan, winning three awards and showcasing excellence in Malay literature performance.
Sufea Aishah Ab. Halim, a Bachelor of Arts in Malay Literature student from the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK), emerged as the first runner-up and received RM1,000. She expressed gratitude for the achievement, noting that it was her first experience competing at the higher education level in storytelling. She highlighted the challenge of creating a unique performance that would stand out among highly creative participants, requiring multiple revisions of her script and delivery style.
Another UPM representative, Nurul Syaqilah Adawiyah Suhardi, secured third place and also won the Best Costume Award, earning a total of RM950. Meanwhile, Nur Syifa Arinah Abdul Kadir received a consolation prize of RM200, contributing to UPM’s strong overall performance.
The competition featured 10 participants from seven public and private higher education institutions across Malaysia. UPM’s success in securing all three awards through its representatives reflects the university’s strength in Malay literary studies and performance arts.
The achievement also underscores UPM’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates with strong appreciation for Malay language, literature, and cultural heritage, in line with efforts to preserve and promote classical Malay literary works among younger generations.
