Garabagh Hosts International Student Model United Nations Conference for the First Time

The inaugural QUMUN 2026, the first international Model United Nations conference in Garabagh, has officially commenced at Qarabağ University in Khankendi. The three-day event, held from May 23 to 25, brings together more than 100 delegates from over 20 countries, marking a historic milestone for youth diplomacy in the region.
Organized under the framework of Azerbaijan’s “Support for Public Initiatives in Science and Education” grant program, the conference is hosted by Qarabağ University in collaboration with the International Youth Dialogue Platform and the Independent Trade Union of Education and Science Workers. The initiative aims to strengthen youth engagement in global processes, enhance diplomatic skills, and promote Karabakh and East Zangezur as emerging centers of academic exchange.
The opening ceremony featured remarks from university and organizational leaders, who emphasized the importance of equipping young people with leadership and international cooperation skills. Speakers highlighted the significance of hosting a global academic event in Karabakh as part of broader educational and regional development goals.
Participants will simulate key UN bodies, including the Security Council, UNESCO, ECOSOC, and the International Court of Justice, addressing issues such as peacebuilding, sustainable development, urbanization, cultural heritage preservation, and artificial intelligence.
The program also includes a study visit to Shusha, offering delegates insight into the region’s cultural heritage and ongoing reconstruction efforts.
