Joint UAE–US Healthcare Innovation Initiative Hosted by Khalifa University and MIT

A total of 32 undergraduate students from Khalifa University and MIT participated in a two-week Healthcare Innovation Program designed to address real-world clinical challenges at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and entrepreneurship. The program brought together 20 Khalifa University students and 12 MIT students to work in multidisciplinary teams on industry-relevant healthcare solutions.

Activities were hosted across Khalifa University’s campuses and 14 research laboratories, as well as leading healthcare institutions in Abu Dhabi, including Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital (SRH), and Sheikh Shakhboot Medical City (SSMC). Students engaged in clinical immersion, hands-on design, rapid prototyping, and received mentorship from faculty and practicing clinicians. Project themes spanned Neurology, Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, Pediatrics, and Women’s Health.

Led by Dr. Kinda Khalaf and Dr. Hermano Krebs, the program also emphasized cultural exchange and experiential learning, strengthening global networks and fostering mutual understanding between participants.

This initiative aligns with Khalifa University’s strategic objectives to advance interdisciplinary education, enhance healthcare technology innovation, and position Abu Dhabi as a regional hub for biomedical research and health technology development.
