Middle East University Hosts ‘The Leader’ Tournament in Aqaba

The Jordan Federation of University Sports (JFUS) recently inaugurated the Jordanian Universities’ Winter Sports events, titled “The Leader” Tournament, in Aqaba. This event is being held in honor of the birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein.

Opening Ceremony Highlights

The opening ceremony witnessed attendance from various dignitaries, including Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, who serves as the President of both the Jordan Federation of University Sports and Middle East University. Also in attendance were HE Ayman Al-Awayisheh, the Governor of Aqaba, commissioners from the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, as well as presidents of several participating public and private universities, deans of student affairs, and numerous student competitors.

Keynote Address by Professor Al-Mahadin

In her keynote address, Professor Al-Mahadin highlighted the significance of “The Leader” Tournament, noting its role in illustrating the importance of university sports in developing young individuals’ character. She remarked on the vital contribution of sports to human development and emphasized its potential to enhance individual contributions to society.

Tournament Schedule and Objectives

The tournament is scheduled to run until February 13 and proceeds in accordance with the High Royal Directives articulated by His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein. These directives prioritize investments in youth through sports, empowering students, and fostering a comprehensive university environment conducive to the development of physical capabilities. Such efforts aim to bolster the representation of Jordanian universities in various sporting events.

“The Leader” Tournament features a range of competitions and matches among teams from Jordanian universities, contributing to the overall dynamic of the sports event.
