President Park Sang-gue’s Keynote Speech at International Engineering Education Conference in Tianjin

President Park Sang-gue of Chung-Ang University (CAU) delivered a keynote speech at the International Conference on the Development of Engineering Education, held at Tianjin University (TJU) in China on September 21. CAU was the only institution from South Korea represented at the event.

Conference Overview

The conference marked the 130th anniversary of Tianjin University and brought together university presidents from various global institutions, including Cardiff University, Heriot-Watt University, and Brunel University London from the United Kingdom, as well as Tongji University, Chongqing University, and Beijing University of Technology from China. Discussions centered on the current landscape and future trends in engineering education.

Keynote Address

In his speech, President Park addressed South Korea’s engineering education and accreditation systems, highlighting the advancements in STEM education and research at Chung-Ang University.

Exchange Agreement Renewal

Additionally, a signing ceremony took place to renew the exchange agreement between Chung-Ang University and Tianjin University. This partnership, first established in 2015, has fostered ongoing research collaborations and student exchanges. The renewal of the agreement aims to further enhance cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology.

Chai Liyuan, President of Tianjin University, thanked President Park for his involvement and underscored the productive exchanges that the two universities have shared over the past decade.

Future Cooperation

President Park noted his appreciation for the opportunity to engage in international discussions regarding engineering education and expressed intentions to strengthen cooperation between faculty and students from both universities in the future.

Tianjin University Achievements

Founded in 1895, Tianjin University is recognized for its achievements, with 15 of its departments noted among the top 1% based on the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), including five departments ranked in the top 0.1%. The university’s engineering and chemistry departments are also ranked within the top 0.01%.
