UTB Excellence Awards 2025: Celebrating Academic and Professional Achievements at Universiti Teknologi Brunei

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) recently conducted its annual Excellence Award Ceremony for 2025, emphasizing the academic and professional achievements of students, as well as the contributions of both academic and non-academic staff. The event coincided with the UTB Convocation Ceremony 2025 and took place at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Acknowledgement of Achievements
The ceremony acknowledged a range of accomplishments through several award categories, including the Staff Excellence Award (SEA), the Chancellor’s Award, Graduate Excellence Award, Publication Award, Dean’s List Award, and the Co-Curricular Activities Award, also known as the Student Achievement Passport (SAP) Award. The ceremony also presented the People’s Choice Award for the UTB Project Showcase 2025.
Guest of Honour and Attendees
Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, who serves as the Minister of Education and Chairperson of the UTB Council, attended as the Guest of Honour. Other notable attendees included His Excellency Mr. Xiao Jianguo, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, as well as members of the UTB Council and Vice-Chancellor Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman.
Ceremony Highlights
The ceremony began with prayers and welcoming remarks from the Vice-Chancellor. During the proceedings, the Guest of Honour presented the Staff Excellence Awards, which recognized achievements among faculty and administrative personnel in areas such as teaching, research, and administration, as well as special mention categories.
Awards and Recognitions
Eighteen individuals received honors for their significant contributions this year. Main award winners were given a commemorative plaque, a certificate of recognition, and a cash prize of BND$1,000, while recipients of the Special Mention Awards received certificates for their efforts.
Teaching Excellence Awards
The key recipients of the Teaching Excellence Awards included:
- Dr. Lee Kok Yueh, Assistant Professor and Deputy Dean of the Centre for Communication, Teaching, and Learning.
- Noor Deenina Salleh binti Hj Md Salleh, Lecturer from the School of Computing and Informatics.
Research Excellence Awards for Early-Career Academics
In the category of Research Excellence Awards for Early-Career Academics, the following were recognized:
- Dr. Sheik Mohammed Sulthan, Assistant Professor, Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
- Pg Dr. Muneerah binti Pg Haji Jeludin, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering.
- Dr. Law Kah Haw, Assistant Professor, Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Administrative Excellence Awards
The Administrative Excellence Awards included honors for the following:
- Academic:
- Dr. Rozia Adenan, Assistant Professor, School of Design.
- Dr. Hajah Nor Zainah binti Haji Siau, Assistant Professor, School of Computing and Informatics.
- Non-Academic:
- Hajah Siti Mariam binti Haji Amit, Office Assistant, Registrar’s Office.
Graduate Excellence Awards
Additionally, Special Mention Awards recognized several contributors to teaching and research excellence. Graduate Excellence Awards were presented to graduates who demonstrated exceptional performance in their respective programs. Notably, Dayang Basma Lachkar received the Chancellor’s Medal Award for outstanding academic results and her recognition as a national Wushu athlete.
Other Awards Presented
Other distributed awards included the Graduate Excellence Award, Publication Award, Dean’s List Awards, and Student Achievement Passport Awards. The Graduate Excellence Awards received sponsorship from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Brunei Darussalam and various local businesses.
Dean’s List and People’s Choice Awards
A total of 55 students were acknowledged with Dean’s List Awards for their academic achievements, while twelve students were recognized for their exceptional involvement in co-curricular activities. The event also awarded eleven recipients of the People’s Choice Award in recognition of their contributions to the UTB Project Showcase 2025, reflecting the institution’s commitment to promoting excellence.
