Walailak University Strengthens International Collaborations with UPN Veteran Jakarta through Renewed MoU for Enhanced Research and Internship Opportunities

On August 28, 2025, Walailak University (WU) renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) in Indonesia. The signing ceremony was presided over by WU President Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong and UPNVJ Rector Professor Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm.
Collaboration Background
The initial MoU, established in 2021, has facilitated various collaborations between the two institutions, particularly focusing on student and staff mobility programs. Involved departments include the School of Accountancy and Finance, WU International College, and the School of Law at Walailak University. Currently, Assistant Professor Dr. Trairong Swatdikun from the School of Accountancy and Finance is engaged in joint research and graduate-level teaching at UPNVJ, with ongoing discussions about further cooperation involving the Dean of the School of Medicine, Associate Professor Dr. Chuchard Punsawad.
Upcoming Visit
Rector Anter Venus expressed intentions to visit Walailak University in November 2025, accompanied by the deans from all seven faculties of UPNVJ.
Emphasis on Internationalization
During the meeting, President Sombat Thamrongthanyawong emphasized the importance of internationalization in three key areas: collaboration, diversity, and visibility. Proposed initiatives included the encouragement of joint publications in Q1 Scopus-indexed journals, enhanced cooperation through matching funds, joint community service projects, participation in international competitions, and the expansion of student exchange programs. Plans also aim to establish international internship placements and promote the exchange of research outputs between related faculties to increase bilateral citations.
