4th Green Ambassadors Appreciation Night: Advancing Environmental Protection and Education Initiatives

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) hosted the fourth Green Ambassadors’ Appreciation Night on July 6, 2025, at the Seminar Hall of the TORAY-USM Building. The event was designed to acknowledge the contributions of the Green Ambassadors (GA) volunteer team in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives.

Organization of the Event

Organized by the Environmental Protection and Education Hub (EPEHub) within the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS) at USM, the appreciation night celebrated the commitment of the Green Ambassadors to advocating for environmental issues both on campus and within the broader community. The collaboration with the Tzu-Chi Society and the Tzu-Chi Collegiate Youth Association of Penang was also noted, highlighting their role in effective environmental education and outreach.

Notable Attendees

Notable attendees included Honorary Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Sayuti Hassan, who represented the Director of CGSS; Associate Professor Dr. Ng Theam Foo, Coordinator of EPEHub; and Dr. Mohd Sukri Mohd Shafie, Advisor to the Green Ambassadors. Mr. EK Siow, Commissioner of the Tzu-Chi Society in Penang, was present as a guest of honor.

Reinforcing Commitment to Sustainability

The evening served to reinforce USM’s commitment to promoting environmental leadership and volunteerism, as well as to strengthen partnerships aimed at sustainability. In his address, Dr. Sayuti commended the Green Ambassadors for their contributions, which have positively impacted both the university community and the broader Penang area. He underscored the importance of addressing environmental challenges through collective community action.

Appreciation for Volunteers

Dr. Ng expressed appreciation for the volunteers’ dedication to sustainability and their role in increasing environmental awareness through EPEHub’s programs. He acknowledged their efforts to effect positive changes within the university and surrounding community.

Inspiration for Future Generations

Additionally, Dr. Sukri recognized the Green Ambassadors for their active participation in various environmental initiatives, emphasizing their potential to inspire future generations toward sustainable practices.

Conclusion of the Event

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and tokens of recognition to the Green Ambassadors for their significant contributions. The gathering highlighted the ongoing mission to inspire sustainable environmental practices for future generations.
